News Announcements: Tooting Our Own Horn
May 2nd, 2012 3:43 PM

If you can remember 1997, if you had any internet access at all it was a 33.6 modem. There was no Google, no YouTube, no Amazon - almost nothing we know today. But we were already here helping a few clients get online with modest websites. Many of those earliest clients are still with us today.

This week Williams Web celebrates 15 years in business, and that is worth at least a little trumpeting. So here goes, and please forgive our pride just this once as we “toot our own horn”.

‘Toot’ Number 1 – Client Loyalty.
We built our business on the philosophy that profitability is the by-product of good service and reliability. We also built our business to be able to withstand economic ups and downs, and we are thankful that so-far we have. As a result, most of our clients stay with us (or come back to us after exploring the ‘greener’ grass on the other side for a while). Our clients know that we will serve them well, and that we will continue to be available to serve them in the future. That is as much our ambition today as it was in the beginning. We value our clients greatly and try to show it every day.

‘Toot’ Number 2 – Superior Product.
Our SiteNow® website management system has actually been called ‘venerable’. That word doesn’t seem to fit a CMS system, but nonetheless we accept it. What an honor it is for one of our products to be called revered, lofty, and impressive. And if we may say so, SiteNow really is “all that and a bag of chips”. SiteNow is used by more clients in our region that any other commercial CMS. In fact, it may be used more than all commercial CMS systems combined in our area. There is good reason for that:

  • SiteNow is more logical and easier to use.
  • SiteNow is consistently updated with new modules, improvements, and web standards.
  • SiteNow websites consistently rank higher in search engine results and many are #1 for their primary target phrases.
  • SiteNow is flexible, extensible, and versatile so you will never hear us say “We can’t do that.”

And all of our client’s websites are on managed and monitored servers at Rackspace, where almost 50% of the Fortune 100 companies host websites, services and applications. That means superior reliability and availability for our client’s websites.

‘Toot’ Number 3 – Staff Continuity
Throughout our history, the average tenure for Williams Web management and production staff is over 8 years. Why does that matter? First, it demonstrates that Williams Web is a great place to work, and happy employees are happy to serve - and that makes our clients happy. Staff continuity also means continuity of support. Our clients have built effective and understanding relationships with various Williams Web staff members whom they call on and even depend on for their various support needs.

‘Toot’ Number 4 – Innovation and Progress
To the best of our knowledge, our SiteNow system was the first commercial CMS system created by a company in our area. Our HIPAA compliant patient forms system is used by many medical practices. And now, Williams Web is leading the way again with fully manageable mobile and responsive website solutions.

How’s that for a brass quartet?

I’m done tooting, so now this blog will return to its usual informative content, at least until 2022 when we might need to strike up the band again for our 25th anniversary. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to serve your organization during the next ten years and beyond.

News Announcements: What We Learned at Slice and Advice
July 7th, 2011 2:42 PM

Our July Slice and Advice event just ended and we had a great time meeting with clients and new friends. If you were able to attend, we are thankful you spent some time with us today discussing online marketing, website development and much more. For those of you who were not able to attend, here are some of the ideas that were shared at today's event:

  1. Search Engine Optimization: Organizations are always looking for ways to get better results in Google searches. We talked about many of the "best effort" approaches to developing content that gets Google's attention, including how to format your web pages within our content management system, SiteNow. We were pleased to hear clients share how our SEO efforts have resulted in significant improvements in search results and web traffic. We also shared some of our copywriting guidelines to help maximize search engine effectiveness. You can download a copy of these copywriting guidelines from our website.
  2. Using Forms Effectively: Many of our clients use forms to collect information from visitors. Whether its a customer survey, event registration or information request, building a form in SiteNow is a quick and easy task. We shared ideas on how to use forms effectively and how to use the information gathered for future marketing efforts.
  3. Adopting a Mobile Strategy: One of the most discussed topics was mobile websites and content that works on mobile devices. It's important that every organization have a mobile strategy in mind and begin thinking about the types of information visitors will want to access on a mobile device. We shared ideas on when to use a mobile website, how to integrate mobile websites with social networking and geo-location checkin services like Foursquare and Facebook Places, and how to make sure your content works on all modern mobile devices.
  4. QR Code Marketing: There was a lot of interest in QR Codes during the event. Some of our attendees have invested a great deal of time in adding QR codes to their products and marketing material so that users can scan these codes with their smartphones to learn more about products and services. We shared ideas on how to use QR codes effectively and gave a quick tutorial on how to generate these codes. To learn more about QR codes, check out our blog post on the topic. For a free QR Generator, check out QRStuff.com.
There were many more topics that were discussed and everyone who attended walked away with a lot of new ideas to energize their online marketing efforts. Look for an announcement in the next few days with information about our next Slice and Advice event. We look forward to sharing some pizza and ideas with you soon!

News Announcements: SiteNow Upgrade: Custom URLs
June 7th, 2011 5:08 PM

It's summer and that means it's time for upgrades. During the month of June, we will be sharing some of the new features and custom modules now available and coming soon in SiteNow.

Custom URL

Sometimes you need a web address that is easy to remember.  If you have a special event or product launch you want to feature in print advertising or in your marketing collateral, publishing an address like www.yoursite.com/www/docs/12/163-thiswebaddressisreallylong is cumbersome and difficult to remember. With Custom URL, you specify a new, easy to remember address like this www.yoursite.com/tradeshow.

When users enter that URL in their browser, SiteNow will redirect them to the correct page on your site. You can create as many Custom URLs as you like (e.g. /about /service /order, etc.) and manage them quickly and easily in the SiteNow admin tools.

Availability: Custom URL is now available to all SiteNow users. Contact us if you need help setting up your Custom URLs or if you want to know more about this feature.
